The Smith+Nephew Women’s Network hosted a brilliant talk this month from Katya Hantel, Vice President of Environment, Social & Governance. As a mother of six, Katya is an expert on setting boundaries, securing a work-life balance and empowering her inner-superhero to thrive.
Here are her three top tips.
- Self-care is not selfish: Self-care means taking time to understand what you uniquely need to thrive. For Katya, self-care comes in the form of fitness, in particular Peloton training. She also recommended ‘leaving loudly’ as a self-care method that helps to put a boundary around your personal time.
- Self-forgiveness is a strength: The secret to courage? “Getting comfortable with mistakes”, says Katya. Higher levels of self-forgiveness have been proven to have a positive impact on biological, psychological and social wellbeing . Ultimately, self-forgiveness gives you the freedom to be courageous.
- Do what you love or choose to love what you do: Though Katya’s work in sustainability aligns to her personal interests, she acknowledges that not everyone is lucky enough to have their passions form part of a profession. Your attitude holds the key to finding the fun in your work.
Our goal to provide ‘Life Unlimited’ isn’t just for patients, it’s for our employees too.
